Steve Griggs "from Fort Worth to Bakersfield"

Emma Lugo interviews Steve Griggs of the Steve Griggs Band.

In the early 90s Steve Griggs was convicted and sentenced to more than 20 years in prison in Texas on drug charges. Upon release Griggs found himself on hard times with no home and no job, so Griggs turned to music and songwriting which had carried him through so many hard times in prison. He decided to return to his love of music and began looking for opportunities to perform at bars and honky tonks across Texas. Along the way he caught the ear of Leon Rausch of Bob Wills of the Texas Playboys and WS Holland from Sun Records who drummed with Johnny Cash for 40 years as well as Carl Perkins and Jerry Lee Lewis. Recently Steve was honored by the Academy of Western Artists.

We will talk with Steve about his studio album, "From Fort Worth to Bakersfield" as well as what it was like to go from 20 years in the pen to performing with country and western artist legends as well as the challenges of life post release, recovery and redemption.
