Maude Barlow and FatherJohn Dear address the Rotary District 5100 2012 Conference

KBOO is a co-sponsor of the Rotary District 5100 annual District Conference and end-of-year celebration.

The conference will be held May 18-20, in Newberg, Oregon on the campus of George Fox University.

This gathering reflects the fact that Rotary International, with local clubs in nearly every nation of the world, has made creating peace its central theme.

Speakers include Maude Barlow, international expert in the future world-wide water crisis. Ms. Barlow served in 2008-09 as Senior Advisor on Water to the 63rd President of the United Nations General Assembly. Ms. Barlow’s books include Blue Gold and Blue Covenant: The Global Water Crisis and the Coming Battle for the Right to Water.

And Fr John Dear SJ, an author, speaker and peace activist. Fr Dear is a relentless advocate of non-violent resistance to conflict. In 2008 he was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. Fr Dear’s books include A persistent Peace, an autobiography, and Living Peace; Put Down Your Sword.

Maude Barlow will speak at 8:45 am on Saturday May 19.
FR Dear will be speaking at 1:00 pm on Saturday May 19.
