Clifford Walker has been asking for several years "why don't we remove the symbols of racial oppression from our currency?".

"I would never have drawn my sword in the cause of America, if I could have conceived that thereby I was founding a land of slavery." - Marquis de Lafayette

Cliff is a deep thinker on the subject of race and race supremacy.  He is right on to point out the importance of the symbols that encode, perpetuate, validate and legitimate white supremacy as a part of the ideology of the U.S.  This is one of the reasons that racism is so intractable, morphing into new and different forms, returning old monsters we thought were vanquished for good, and always handy when times are tough. When people of Arab ancestry or nation of origin--and even Muslim people--citizens and legal immigrants--were rounded up after 9-11, my heart ached.  Not only for the Muslims and Arabs, but for the black folk turning over in their graves.  Japanese people took it upon themselves to re-invigorate their efforts reminding people of their incarceration, loss of property, and treatment as criminals--for which they were given paltry 'reparations' and an apology.  Yet, again. And since Obama's election, such nastiness, mean-spirited, violent racism has surfaced, as well as subtle obstructionist sabotage.  Shame. Thank you for this informative and inspiring interview.  Your editing  - music and commentary further explaining and sourcing the information Cliff provided - was very helpful in contextualizing his words. The pace was lovely.  I also work in community media, and these treasures among us need to be given voice.  We are all much richer for it.  I'm told a 2nd version without the audio distortions is yet to come; I'm looking forward to posting it!

Hello dear listeners:There is a terrible garble at 5 minutes that lasts about a minute, and at 18 minutes that lasts about a minute and a half. This is where I am reading information about Washington and Jefferson as slave owners. We at Circle A Radio are aware, and fixing it, and please come back to listen to the whole thing. Thanks to Elaine for pointing it out to us. Take Care -Erin/Circle A Radio
