People who have employer-provided or privately purchased health insurance are more likely to experience medical debt, and more likely to postpone care because of cost, compared with people who are covered by public insurance, such as Medicare or Medicaid.
Those are some of the conclusions in new research published this week in the medical journal JAMA Open Network.
KBOO Reporter Doug McVay spoke with the lead author, Dr. Charlie Wray, an assistant professor of medicine at UC San Francisco Medical School.
