News, views and interviews from a Socialist, Feminist and Anti Racist perspective

Jon Nelson Hosts this episode of the Old Mole which includes:

Vote! Bill Resnick interviews Max Elbaum, on the great set of organizations  – including social, economic, and environmental groups, some unions, and many social movements -- who worked in the 2020 election to elect progressives, Biden and enough Democrats to control the Congress. Max and Bill discuss the importance of working to win elections and how electoral work and movement building can be complement one another. Max Elbaum has been a tireless radical activist in peace, anti-racism, anti-globalization struggles. In his spare time he writes, authored two books, Revolution in the Air: Sixties Radicals Turn to Lenin, Mao and Che and he recently collaborated on Power Never Concedes, that explores the themes of the interview.

Climate and Divestment: For years, students around the country have organized campaigns at their universities to stop fossil fuel investments. Recent campaigns have scored a number of victories with the assistance of movement lawyers with the Climate Defense Project (CDP). Jan Haaken talks with Alex Marquardt, attorney, co-founder and Executive Director of CDP about these campaigns and their shifting legal strategies, as well as the place of student divestment campaigns in the larger climate justice movement.

Federal Recognition of NW Tribes: Celilo Wyam activist Lana Jack and Chinook Vice Chair Sam Robinson speak about the Celilo Wyam and Chinook struggles for federal recognition at an Indigenous Peoples Day event  moderated by Lakota-Cheyenne Mole Roben White. The panelists reflect on the stakes in the struggle, on the links between settler colonialism, resource extraction, the 1957 inundation of Celilo Falls, and the displacement and disenfranchisement of Indigenous peoples; and how non-Native allies can help support the Tribes in their struggles for federal recognition.
