Animals held in captivity for our entertainment at parks and zoos often live desperate, terrible lives--at the very least they suffer from endless sensory deprivation, boredom, and loneliness. On our next show, host Michele Coppola talks with Howard Garrett, founder of the Orca Network. Howard is part of the planned effort to free Lolita, also known as Tokitae, or "Toki"-- an orca from the Pacific Northwest who has been in captivity at the Miami Seaquarium for over 50 years.
We'll also speak with Courtney Scott, Elephant Consultant for In Defense of Animals about why the Oregon Zoo has once again landed on their list of the 10 Worst Zoos for Elephants.
