SOFT BOYS / ROBYN HITCHCOCK special October 6th, 3:00am - 5:30am.
The Soft Boys were a punk band heralded as cult heroes by such U.S. bands as R.E.M. and The Replacements. At its helm was Robyn Hitchcock, a man confused by the world around him. His songs reflect back that confusion and chaos, filtered through the sensibilities of his musical idols: The Beatles, Dylan, and Syd Barrett.
These days Robyn wears the mantle of the freak-folk movement, and 5 years ago the musos referred to him as the "psychedelic troubador". But when you strip off the identifying labels, it's all about the songs. And really, there is something for every one.
On October 6th, ANODYNE is happy to present a 2 1/2 hour retrospective of Robyn's music: from the early Soft Boys days (circa 1977) to Robyn's present day work with the Venus 3 (comprised of members of R.E.M. and its extended family). IN between there will be covers, interview segments, and rarities.
