The Melting Pot w/ featured artist -RARA AVIS of the DESERT DWELLERS

Tuesday Night 8-10pm on The Melting Pot w/ featured artist -RARA AVIS of the DESERT DWELLERS. Well be catching up about the show this Friday, the New Album and Future Plans... It all happens 8-10p tomorrow on 90.7fm KBOO

Desert Dwellers has its roots in the Southern California dance collective known as Moontribe, famous in the electronic underground for organizing tribal dance rituals at magical locations deep within the vast desert expanses of both Southern California and New Mexico. Initially a collaboration in the late 1990's between electronic music pioneers Amani Friend & Treavor Moontribe (aka Amani vs Teapot), Desert Dwellers grew to incorporate Six Degrees recording artist Rara Avis in 2005.

Skillfully blending deep bass, earthy percussion, etheric voices and culture-crossing instrumentation into a sonic incense for mind and body, Desert Dwellers offers a spellbinding hybrid with echoes of our tribal past and future. Using the internet as a collaborative space in which concept albums are created, these sound alchemists use cutting edge techniques that blend the modern edge of electronica with the ancient sounds of cultures past.  The result has been the prolific production of genre blending dance tracks and downtempo grooves that make for truly memorable listening experiences.

On DownTemple Dub: Remixed, world-class sound alchemists filter Desert Dwellers’ classic psy-chilled grooves through a kaleidoscope of midtempo breaks and ornately-textured ambience. Yoga dub meets ethno-electronic bass music on this genre-bending journey through realms of sonic bliss and dancefloor ecstasy.

Bringing the bass music vibe to the yoga space – and the yoga vibe to the bass music space – Desert Dwellers’ global sounds are the bridge between two ideas. Joining solid groove with sounds of serenity, their signature yoga dub aesthetic feels as natural after hours as it does on the yoga mat. Due in no small part to Desert Dwellers’ pioneering spirit, the very concept of yoga music has expanded dramatically.

Some of the most forward thinking producers in the ethno-electronic scene embrace the Desert Dwellers concept on DownTemple Dub: Remixed, a reimagining of Desert Dwellers’ tranquility bass and groove-infused South Asian psy-chill fusion.

International excursions from pacesetting deep bass alchemists (Kalya Scintilla, Love & Light, Kaminanda, and Drumspyder among them), and contributions from rising names in the burgeoning yogabeat scene (Duke Mushroom, EarthRise SoundSystem, Eccodek), the album is more than just deep bass, cool soundscapes and exotic voices. It is the expression of music’s ritual and scientific power. It is the pursuit of the transformative, communal experience that bass music and yoga share.
