Bread & Roses welcomes female coming-of-age novelists from Austin, TX.

Bread & Roses welcomes women writers from Austin, TX:  Dawn Erin, author of The Iron Horse, and Mary Pauline Lowry, author of The Earthquake Machine.  These female coming-of-age novels push the boundaries of the genre to the extreme; the kind of raw stories that adolescent girls have always relished and parents have feared.

Dawn Erin's The Iron Horse, tells the story of young Sunny Quinn, a gifted Saddleseat Equitation rider who endures a childhood of drudgery, abuse and catastrophic personal failure, and finds relief in blues music, first love, and a full blown heroin addiction.

In Mary Pauline Lowry's The Earthquake Machine, fourteen-year-old Rhonda swims across the border to Mexico, disguises herself as a boy, and goes on a five month quest to find a friend recently deported by the INS.

The writing is as fearless as the protagonists.

Leigh Anne Kranz hosts.
