For the premier episode of KBOO's "Citizen's Sports Report," we will explore the social dynamics of women who play full contact sports. Are certains sports "made" for one gender, but not the other? Why do some see Roller Derby as a "woman's sport," and American Football seen as a "man's sport?"
During this episode we take a trip to Oaks Park to attend a Rose City Roller Derby Bout. We will hear what the players, fans, and one of co-founders have to say on this issue. We also posed these questions to three players from the Portland Fighting Fillies, one of Portland's all female, semi-pro, full contact football teams.
Later in the episode we hear from two sociology professors from the University of Portland and Portland State University who offer some contrasting views on this subject.
