In this world of evil and hatred one rarely gets the occassion to celebrate and honor the emotion called love. Valentine's Day was originally a commemoration of the Christian Saint Valentinus, but later on the concept gained a more romantic notion. It was during this time that Valentine's day was associated with courtly love that flourished all over Europe. Valentine's Day customs developed in early modern Britain and spread throughout America in the 19th century.
