This week Rick Mitchell will guest host.
From 4 to 5 p.m. we'll play a special episode of Jazz In the New Millennium focusing on pianist Harold Mabern. Mabern, who passed away September 19 at the age of 83, liked to call himself a blues pianist with jazz chops. His percussive yet sensitive style was sometimes compared to McCoy Tyner, but his influences went back further, to Art Tatum, Phineas Newborn Jr., Ahamd Jamal and Bud Powell. He appeared on many essential jazz recordings beginning in the 1960s, and he maintained an active touring and recording career until his death. We invite you to join us for this celebration of a great, underappreciated jazz master .
