In the realm of Grateful Dead fans, I believe a short list of the most revered phrases would include 'New Year's.'
Those runs feature some legendary shows, guests, song revivals and visual spectacles. Bill Graham's efforts in most of them were capped off by an astonishing float passing through the crowd just before midnight, when either the show would start (early years) or the second set (1979 and onward).
This show will feature the opening song from nearly every New Year's Eve show (but neither of the first two). I'm intentionally NOT playing the midnight song because Sugar Magnolia dominated this slot since 1978.
Ironically, Sugar Magnolia opened the one NYE show I saw (89-90), but that wasn't at midnight.
