November 21 Jordan Cove protest Oregon State Capitol

As we all hunker down in social isolation, in hope of staving off the worst of the COVID-19 pandemic, how do we maintain our connections to community and social activism? Since KBOO has shut down all volunteer operations, we are producing our programming from our homes or other safe remote locations and finding ways to heighten our sense of community in the face of social fragmentation.

On this episode of Locus Focus we talk again with Southern Oregon activist and environmental writer Emma Marris about the steep challenges and potential opportunities this crisis presents to us. We'll also look at how corporate interests such as the fossil fuel industry will try to take advantage of this crisis to slip through some of their pet projects, like the Jordan Cove LNG Export Terminal and Pacific Connector Pipeline in Southern Oregon. As an example, on March 19, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission conditionally approved the permit for Jordan Cove LNG Export Facility and Pacific Connector Gas Pipeline. But the project cannot be built without key permits from the State of Oregon, all of which have been denied or withdrawn. Pembina, the company that owns Jordan Cove, plans to appeal to the federal Department of Commerce, Oregon's denial of Jordan Cove's Coastal Zone Management Act Permit. But Oregon will surely fight back. To find out more about how you can help stop Jordan Cove for good contact one of these organizations:

Rogue Climate

Power Past Fracked Gas

Columbia Riverkeeper

We need solidarity more than ever and we hope this show can help. Stay safe and wash your hands.
