"A lot of us in this moment are reassessing our ideas about policing, our understanding of public safety, and being an organization that is rooted in imagination, we truly believe we can imagine an alternative."

The Movement for Racial Justice has put the spotlight on police spending and the outcomes it produces. In Portland, many are calling for a change to be made, by defunding and disbanding the Portland Police Bureau (PPB). One of the organizations that has been advocating for these changes is the Portland African American Leadership Forum (PAALF). The group has organized a "Defund the PPB" campaign, which looks to take police funding and reinvest it into Black, Indigenous and POC communities.

KBOO's Claire Rischiotto spoke with PAALF Executive Director Joy Alise Davis to learn more about the campaign.
