Every 10 years, Portland’s City Council sponsors a Charter Commission to review and recommend changes to the City’s constitution.
The most recent commission came back with a series of recommendations that overhaul Portland’s form of city government and introduce ranked choice voting for city elections.
That package of changes is on the Oregon General Election ballot as City of Portland Measure 26-228.
Dissatisfaction with the current form of government is high, and polls indicate that most Portlanders are in favor of the charter change.
But despite strong public support, opponents continue to ramp up their efforts to defeat the measure.
KBOO’s Ray Bodwell has more on the story.
