Portland Community College has hosted the Cascade Festival of African Films for 34 years, inviting filmmakers from the African diaspora to Oregon and welcoming the community to attend screenings free of charge.
This year's festival co-directors, Eugenie Jolivett Fontana and Aviva McClure, talk with S.W. Conser about 2024's hybrid festival, teaming up with the Portland Art Museum, the Hollywood Theatre, and the Multnomah County Library to bring family-friendly global cinema to the widest possible audience.
We also talk with documentarian Greg Hamilton about the upcoming Nyback Show at the Hollywood Theatre, spotlighting the film archive of the late Dennis Nyback, who collected thousands of rare movies from around the world.
