It's bad enough to be stranded forever in the employment line. But to be cut out of the running for being unemployed adds insult to injury, to insanity. Still, yesterday The Oregon House found itself voting to make it illegal to post a job advertisement telling unemployed jobseekers not to apply.Of course the legislation is meaningless since employers can continue the practice either undetected and undeterred or merely stinging from the equivalent of a gnat spitting on one's knee. a $1,000 fine. All the employer need do is read the applicant's resume.Employers would only violate the new law if they say in the job ad that applicants must be currently employed. and then there is the juggernaut Davis Wright Tremain. Proponents say job ads that exclude unemployed workers discourage people who are struggling to find work in a depressed economy.Opponents say they're concerned about creating a new regulation on businesses. The House approved Senate Bill 1548 on a 56-4 vote, sending the measure to Gov. John Kitzhaber.
