KBOO celebrates the international culture of women with 24 hours of special programming.

March 8th is International Women’s Day.

Continuing our annual tradition, KBOO is broadcasting an entire day of music, information, and news—all produced by about women.

Tune in anytime between 5:30 AM, Tuesday, March 8th, and 5:30 AM, March 9th to hear a variety of music and information highlighting the diversity of women’s experience.

Tuesday, March 8th
5:30–7:00 AM	Early Morning Gumbo hosted by Diane Karl Join me as I kick off International Women's Day with an all female celebration of Mardi Gras, moving between the city sound of New Orleans with such stalwarts as Marcia Ball and Irma Thomas to the Louisiana countryside including Cajun music of the Magnolia Sisters and Creole sounds of Queen Ida plus many more!
7:00–8:00 AM	Democracy Now! with Amy Goodman
8:00–9:00 AM	Women in Prison hosted by Ruth Kovacs and Brenda Escobar For International Women's Day, Prison Pipeline will explore the history of women in prisons and examine various issues affecting women in today's prisons. We will bring you excerpts from music, poetry and a play, all written by women in prison as well as voices from local women doing amazing things after having been incarcerated themselves. Please tune in.
9:00–10:00 AM	The Women of Country and Western Music hosted by Retta Christie This show will feature various female vocalists taken from recordings ranging from the 1920’s to the 1970’s. Some of the artists included will be, Patsy Cline, Patsy Montana, Girls of the Golden West, and Rose Maddox.
10:00–10:30 AM	A Deeper Look hosted by Linda Olson-Osterlund Dr. Vandana Shiva (वन्दना शिवा), philosopher, environmental activist, and eco feminist, will be speaking with Linda about the Universal Rights of Mother Earth. CD-1822
10:30–11:00 AM	Public Affairs programming hosted by Crystal Leighty Who are the most influential women around? Tune in for a discussion of "Woman of the Year", Who's making a splash in politics, cultural work, music, the arts, and / or in news reporting? Who are our local heroines? Listeners will be invited to phone in your nominations.
11:00–11:30 AM	Stage & Studio hosted by DMae Roberts What to call yourself when you don't have a name? That's what Dmae Roberts grappled with most of her adult life. In a country that likes to think it celebrates cultural diversity, race and identity continue to be a complex topic. Noon–1:00 PM	Buscando América: Día Internacional de las Mujeres hosted by Carmen Martin-Styles In this special program, young women leaders Araceli Ortiz, Christina Mora and Cecilia Girón will talk about Adelante Chicas (Go ahead girls) dedicated to empower Latina girls in Oregon, a program of the organization Adelante Mujeres. Listen to some of the most powerful and beautiful Spanish songs composed/performed by women from Central and South America, Spain and United States while learning about the struggles of women in our communities/countries and their achievements. Show in Spanish.

2:00–3:00 PM	Folklorico Music from South America hosted by Neyza Show in Spanish.
3:00–4:00 PM	Tonalli with hosts Ruth Parra, Edith Quiroz Molina, Victoria Hernandez, Brenda Escobar On Tuesday an international day of women in tonalli we talk of Latinas both northern, central and south america that have managed to achieve in different areas such as politics, art, science, economy and others and that is what we inspired to follow his example of life as we listen to music of their countries of origin. Show in Spanish.
4:00–5:00 PM	World Music hosted by Kathy Fors This hour will have an emphasis of Roma/Gypsy women

6:00–7:00 PM	Out Loud hosted by Sasha Buchert Katie Carter from In Other Words will discuss the 100th anniversary of International Women's Day, an event coming up entitled "Feminism Forever" on Wednesday March 9th that will host Amy Richards, Julie Serrano, and Andi Zeisler. There will also be a discussion with the organizers of the Portland International Women's Day event. Also, Jessica Amo from the Women's Resource Center at Portland State University will discuss current feminisms, Sexual Assault Awareness Month and campus sexual violence.
7:00–8:00 PM	Cowgirl Music hosted by Rachel Gold Cowgirl music special! Join Music from the Truevine's Rachel Gold for an hour of great cowgirl music, featuring Patsy Montana, Kitty Wells, the DeZurik Sisters and more! Tune in as we put the 'lady' back in 'yodel-ay-de-hoo!'
8:00–9:00 PM	Shocks of Sheba hosted by Michele Wellnitz and Teresa Kozic Presenting an hour slice of some fantastic music from women in reggae’s past & present. From Hortense Ellis to Queen Ifrica, this will be an hour dedicated to the fantastic works of women everywhere. Tune in & rock!

10:00 PM–12 Midnight	DJ Anjali Tonight, DJ Anjali will focus on Women Artists from the Desi diaspora — with special guest: Anjali's mum, who will share some of her favorite filmi songs.

3:00–5:30 AM	International Women Day Punk Rock Special hosted by Erin Yanke We spend the last 2 1/2 hours of international women's day focusing on female fronted punk bands from all over the world. From Portland to Iceland, and many many places in between.
