Dr. Gordon Nembhard on African American owned co-ops and the power of community based economic strategies.
Dr. Gordon Nembhard is a political economist specializing in community economic development, wealth inequality, Black political economy, popular economic literacy, and community justice. She is Associate Professor of Community Justice and Social Economic Development in the Department of Africana Studies at John Jay College, of the City University of New York (CUNY). Dr. Nembhard is in the process of publishing a book on African American owned co-ops entitled Collective Courage: A History of African American Cooperative Economic Thought and Practice Vol. 1. She talks with Bread and Roses' host Delphine Criscenzo about the power of community-based economic strategies and the long and rich history of Black-owned co-ops.
