Former National Teacher of the Year and 5-time Coretta Scott King Literary Award winner Sharon M Draper discusses her career and latest book, Out Of My Mind
Sharon M. Draper, professional educator and award winning author is May guest on Black Book Talk. Draper has been honored as the National Teacher of the Year and is a five-time winner of the Coretta Scott King Literary Awards. Among her well-loved young adults books are Tears of a Tiger, Forged by Fire, Copper Sun and the nine-week New York Times bestseller, Out of my Mind. Her latest book is Panic, about 15-year-old Diamond, who tries to show her mother she knows how to make an "adult" decision. Instead, she disappears from a local mall, and no one can find her.
Draper talks to Black Book Talk about why and how she writes, and what she’s writing now.
