Tonight on A Different Nature we will listen to several new pieces from releases that have come out in the last several months. We'll hear works from Maja SK Ratkje, Claire Rousay, Beatriz Ferreyra and a few more. Most of the second hour of the show will be occupied by an excerpt from The Great Learning, from British composer Cornelius Cardew. This archival recording was performed in 1996 by the Montreal Scratch Orchestra, and released by Tone Glow Records in May 2021. Cornelius Cardew was one of the great experimental music composers of the 1960s and early 1970s. The Great Learning, a work in seven parts or "Paragraphs," is based on translations of Confucius by Ezra Pound. We will listen to "Paragraph 7" of this peice.
