The 50th anniversary of Earth Day falls on April 22nd, and local environmental organizations have online actions planned, since stay-at-home orders and social distancing mean in-person organizing is not possible. #StoptheMoneyPipeline is an action against J.P Morgan Chase, organized by Greenpeace Portland, 350 PDX, Columbia Riverkeeper and Extinction Rebellion Portland in collaboration with similar groups across the country.
The coalition demands that asset managers, insurance companies and investors stop funding, insuring and investing in climate destruction. Originally, in-person action was planned, however stay-at-home orders related to the COVID-19 pandemic mean that collective actions have to move online. On April 23rd, members of the coalitions and participants in the #StoptheMoneyPipeline campaign will review local Chase Bank branch locations negatively on the internet, voicing concerns about the continued investment in fossil fuel.
