Music nerddom has many levels.
Erik is the boss at the end of one of these levels.
Erik was listening to noise back before you were old enough to consider noise a musical genre.
Erik brought in a large storage tub of compact discs to work 3 days ago. Christian and I were agog.
"I'm getting rid of these," Erik said. "You wanna go through them and pick some out?"
Hells yes! As we flipped through the cds, we were gleefully calling out bands and and album names of stuff we knew. But for every band we were familiar with, there were 10 artists that we didn't have a clue about.
Stuff like: Drive Like Jehu, Li Chin Sung, Blanket Music, Bailter Space, Enon, Rodan, and Ruins.
I don't know who thought of it first, but out popped this week's theme.
"Let's make a radio show out of Erik's discards!"
Christian said, "We should call it Erik's Castaways.....a 3-hour tour!"
So yes, we'll meet up this Saturday night and attempt to turn these piles into a radio show. There'll be quite a few things you'll recognize. I don't know what Christian grabbed, but I saw Sonic Youth and Bjork and Yo La Tengo.
But there'll be more things that you don't know about. That we didn't know about before this week.
We hope you'll tune in, we'll all be discovering this music together.
